[Abstract] A switched reluctance motor (SRM) can be one of substitutes for interior permanent magnet synchronous motors used in many industrial applications because of their merits. This paper proposes an optimization method for an SRM fed by an asymmetric bridge converter. The converter is coupled with 2-D finite element method. We optimize five geometries of SRM shape and turnon and turnoff angles of the asymmetric bridge converter by using the experimental design method. The optimized SRM produces a larger torque than that of an initial motor in low speed range.
